TWM Traffic Ports

Solutions for the Ports & Freeports Sector

The UK Ports industry is the second largest in Europe, handling more than 500 million tonnes of freight each year, as well as over 60 million international and domestic passenger journeys.

The UK ports industry handles 95% of UK import and export by volume. Despite the large number of ports in the UK, much of the freight traffic is concentrated among a comparatively small percentage, with the top 20 ports accounting for 88% of the total.*

With this level of activity, port environments are complex, with multiple companies and contractors operating within them, carrying out varied activities. This brings a number of risks to those who work there and those passing through. Operating 24 hours a day, in all conditions, with the operation of workplace transport in close proximity to pedestrian workers, good safety measures are critical. Ports also have their own road networks, something we are very familiar with, and many drivers may not be familiar with the layout, know where they need to go or how they should get there.

Smart Solutions

How Can We Help?

From monitoring vehicles entering a site, to providing drivers with real-time information and informing them of safety regulations and speed risks, we can help to improve site safety in a port environment.

We have a wide range of technology such as our Mini Matrix™ signage, which helps inform and advise road users, whilst our speed indicator and speed control signs are proven to influence driver behaviour, reducing speeding and improving vehicle and pedestrian safety.

In addition, we have an overheight vehicle detection system will alert vehicle drivers that their vehicle is too high to pass under upcoming infrastructure and advise them to turn around or divert.

Asset Management

Central Management System

The TWM Central Management Systems (CMS) helps ports and airports with private road networks who wish to remotely access and manage the assets across their site(s) by providing network visibility through a cloud-based solution. This can reduce maintenance and resource costs and improve the efficiency with which staff and visitors move around the site.
